The theme I chose for my gallery is “Illusions in the Streets.” I have selected some of the most amazing street drawings the world has seen and have made a small gallery showing these drawings in all their brilliance. The two artists whose paintings I have selected are Kurt Wenner and Julian Beever.
American Artist and architect Kurt Wenner began creating his amazing works in 1982. Educated at the Rhode Island School of Design, he moved to Italy in 1982 to study Classical art, which, along with Mannerism, became his major inspirations for his works. After becoming Nasa’s scientific space illustrator, he moved into full time art in 1982, and began creating street illusions in 1984.
Julian Beever is an English chalk artist based out of Belgium. He has been creating chalk illusions on the streets of countries all over the world since the mid-1990′s.
Click on a painting to read about it. It is difficult to find good information on many of these recent street drawings, but I did my best to discover the date created and location.
- “Dies Irae” by Kurt Wenner, created in Italy in 2007.
- “Wild Rodeo” by Kurt Wenner, created in Calgary, Alberta in 2005
- “Apollo” by Kurt Wenner, created in Italy(?) in the Early 2000′s.
- “The Politicians Meeting Their End” by Julian Beever, created in England in 1997.
- “Dungeon” by Julian Beever, created in Belgium (?) in 2007 (?)
- “Fish Supper” created in Belgium (?) in 2008 (?)

I love this art. I actually picked it out as the exihibit the way that it just pops out of the concrete is awesome. You definately create a theme for your art and it matches though out the exihibit. All of the art was after 1975. I did not see where you connected each piece to theme though it was very evident and I did not see an aesthetic statement on any of the art. I do love the exihibit I just wish that I could have heard more on you opinion on the peices.
